Description
Transit 5B-5 is a US Navy navigation satellite launched by a Thor Able Star rocket. The Transit satellites formed part of one of the first operational satellite navigation systems, also known as the Navy Navigation Satellite System (NNSS). It still transmits a telemetry signal whenever illuminated by the sun.
Transit 5B-5 is currently the oldest active satellite in space.
