The LASARsat mission, led by the Czech high school team LASAR, is the result of their winning idea at the global Conrad Challenge, judged by NASA experts. The mission aims to test high-powered lasers to manage space debris. The satellite is equipped with a parabolic mirror that focuses laser energy onto a piece of ablative material. The resulting changes in velocity will help determine if lasers can slow or redirect space debris. It will also measure how much laser energy passes through the atmosphere and test the accuracy of ground-based laser targeting. As a student-led mission, LASARsat promotes science education and supports amateur radio activities. The project is supported by HiLASE, Spacemanic, the Prague Planetarium, SkyFox Labs, the Czech Aerospace Research Centre, TechSoft Engineering, the Teplice Observatory, and Porta Coeli brewery.
